Cairo – Mubasher: Infinity Power has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Cameroon's West Regional Council to develop solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and battery projects with total capacities of four gigawatts (GW).

The projects are set to be completed by 2035, according to a press release.

The deals will see projects across the Western Region rolled out in phases, aiming to boost domestic power supply using clean energy sources.

Cameroon currently relies heavily on gas and hydro, with electricity demand rising 27% in two decades.

The UN-Habitat will assist with technical support, feasibility studies, governance frameworks, and ensuring community benefits.

The MoU marks a key step for Infinity Power's mission to expand its portfolio across Africa and support UN sustainable development goals.

It comes after the company signed an agreement with Egypt to potentially develop one of the world's largest wind projects at 10 GW. Infinity Power currently has 1.30 GW operational, with a 2030 target of 10 GW.

Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, said: "It’s always amazing to invest in facilities in a new country, which feeds into our long-term ambition to operate in every country in Africa.”

Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, commented: "This impressive facility, which will utilise wind and solar power amongst other technologies, has the potential to transform energy provision in the area, help bolster Cameroon’s economy, and deliver huge benefits to local communities.”

Jules Hilaire Focka Focka, President of the Cameroon West regional Council, highlighted: “Our strategic develop plan includes the creation of a dried port and railways system that will connect the region to the port. We need energy to power the electric train and our industry.”

Vincent Kitio, Lead of Urban Energy Solutions, UN-Habitat, stated: “The Western region of Cameroon has an abundant renewable energy potential exceeding 6 GW. The region receives only 100 MW of electricity from the national grid for a population of over 2 million people energy, resulting in a huge energy deficit.”

It is worth noting that Infinity Power is a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) to target power generation and distribution projects in the renewable energy space in Africa.
